I currently own two dogs from Ragom. Finnegan was adopted in 2006 at eight months old. He was too wild for his original owners. I adopted another dog in February 2014. At that time there were no middle-aged Golden Retrievers available and that was fine with me. Jackson is a red lab. He was tied to a shelter gate in Iowa before Christmas 2013 along with another dog. A note was attached to them. He is about five years old now. While I have always owned Goldens, I was actually looking for a non-golden. I was hoping I wouldn't have to deal with some of the health issues that goldens have. Jackson has a different energy than my goldens, and that is just fine with me.
While neither of my dogs cost Ragom much money, my last foster dog cost them a small fortune. I had Liberty 13-231 for two years. She came from a mill and had four large tumors that needed to be removed. She also needed to be spayed. The tumors were too big to be removed in one surgery, so she had two surgeries that first year....one removed the two largest tumors, and the next one removed the other two tumors and spayed her. She also had ear infections that took three doses of medication to get rid of. She wasn't adopted because of her lack of socialization so when we went back the next year, she had more mammary tumors that needed to be removed. She was just adopted after almost two years in foster care.
