This year I am fundraising in honor of a special foster girl, Dani 22-020A, whose life was all too short at only 2.5 years old.  She came to RAGOM from a commercial breeding situation.  She was one of the sweetest fosters I have ever had. 

Though initially somewhat skittish of humans, she quickly warmed up and loved to snuggle in bed or just sit with me on the couch and put her head on my shoulder.  She would look deeply into my eyes, right into my soul.  I always thought she would be an excellent therapy dog as she had so much compassion and eyes full of love and trust.

She was only in fostercare for 9 weeks.  We spent a couple of weeks trying to find out she was not feeling well and her appetite was waning.  It turns out she had severe liver damage and she rapidly declined while in emergency care.  There was nothing medically that could be done to fix what was broken, so we lovingly had to send her to the Rainbow Bridge while I held her and kissed her and told her how much I loved her. Dani was incredibly special and will always have a big piece of my heart.

So many of the dogs we get in rescue are emotionally damaged and some have physical issues to address as well.  Some progress faster than others into healing and trusting humans.  Some need much more time, patience, and incredible amounts of love to help coax them out of their fear.  No matter how long it takes, each one of these precious dogs is worth the effort.
